ABOUT ME
Student led learning is at the heart of my teaching, and my aim in lessons is to help a student develop their vocal technique in a way that gives them access to choices and control of their voice, and allow students to learn to sing without straining, and with control and freedom. Estill voice training, which combines science with meaningful practise and gives the singer control over their voice, forms the basis of my approach and in this regard I am currently working towards an Estill Master Training certification (EMT) and am always updating my knowledge and skills through professional development courses.
Repertoire development and knowledge is essential for all students who aspire to further training in the performing arts and creating a personalised repertoire folder based on age, voice type and current skills is very important and I am always looking at different ways to expand a students knowledge of various styles and genres particularly within the genre of Musical Theatre.
Audition preparation for me is multifactorial, I always stay up to date with the processes of many different college auditions and options that are available and suitable for students at their personal stage of development. My contacts in the industry both locally, nationally and internationally help to bring a wide range of opportunities to my students.
The next step is guidance through both the application process, and through the audition process itself. Help with choosing the best material so showcase your current skills and learning how to present that material in the audition room when under pressure. Mental readiness encompassing attentional control, goal setting, self confidence and relaxation techniques are the skills I strive to equip all my clients with.
Over the past 15 years of teaching I have had students and clients receive offers from many colleges across the UK and Ireland including Bird College, Urdang, Guilford School of Acting, Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, Arts Ed, Laine Theatre Arts, Performers College, Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Mountview, Italia Conti, Kings College Cambridge, Royal Irish Academy of Music, MTU Cork School of Music and many, more. I also have many younger students training with Stagebox UK and over 20 current and former students perform with NYMT UK over the last 12 years as well as Irish Youth Choir, Irish Youth Training Choir and many local productions in Cork.
